PCORI fee increase
The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) fee, established under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), has seen another increase, with the rate for plan years ending on or after October 1, 2024, and before October 1, 2025, rising to $3.47 per covered life. This fee, which funds comparative effectiveness research in healthcare, is levied on health insurance issuers and sponsors of self-insured health plans. The annual payment, calculated based on the average number of covered lives, including employees, spouses, and dependents, is due to the IRS by July 31st each year via Form 720. Originally set to expire, the PCORI fee was extended through plan years ending before October 1, 2029, making ongoing compliance crucial for affected organizations.
